“I write very slowly, too slowly and too carefully. Every line I write has to feel ‘final’ and ‘perfect’ to me. This is a huge waste of time, especially since many of these lines I slave over eventually disappear (as evidenced by the many cut from the first draft of this story). However, if I decide a scene, dialogue passage, etc. is going to stay, I will almost always retype the original version. These kept moments, which already exist for me in ‘finished’ form, are sort of like oases in the rewrite.”
